The power generation ceremony of the first batch of units of Baihetan Hydropower Station on the Jinsha River was held in the form of video connection on the 28th. The main venue was set up in Beijing and a branch venue was set up at the construction site of Baihetan Hydropower Station.

 

Han Zheng, member of the Standing Committee of the Political Bureau of the CPC Central Committee and Vice Premier of the State Council, attended the ceremony at the main venue in Beijing and announced that the first batch of units of Baihetan Hydropower Station were officially put into operation. Baihetan Hydropower Station is located on the Jinsha River at the junction of Ningnan County, Sichuan Province and Qiaojia County, Yunnan Province. It was developed and constructed by China Three Gorges Group, with a total investment of 220 billion yuan and a total installed capacity of 16 million kilowatts. A total of 16 sets of global stand-alone capacity developed by my country have been installed. The maximum power is one million kilowatts. The main project of the power station started construction in July 2017. The first two units have been put into operation for power generation, and all units will be put into operation for power generation in July 2022. After the power station is completed and put into operation, it will become the world's second largest hydropower station after the Three Gorges Project.

According to CCTV News, this (June 28) morning, the first batch of units of the Baihetan Hydropower Station on the Jinsha River, a major national project of "power transmission from west to east", were officially put into operation for power generation.

 


CCTV reporter Zhang Wei:I am now in the underground powerhouse on the right bank of Baihetan Hydropower Station. Unit 14 and Unit 1 on the left bank are undergoing final preparations before commissioning. After 72 hours of trial operation, the two units will be handed over to Baihetan Hydropower Plant and officially put into operation.

Baihetan Hydropower Station has installed a total of 16 hydroelectric generating units with a single unit capacity of 1 million kilowatts, which is currently the largest hydropower unit in the world. It is understood that the electricity generated by the first batch of units will be mainly sent to Jiangsu and Zhejiang to help the economic development of the Yangtze River Delta region.


Wang Zhilin, Director of the Construction Department of the Baihetan Project of the Three Gorges Group:How much electricity can such a huge unit generate in one revolution? According to our calculation, each revolution of the wheel can generate about 150 degrees, which is equivalent to the electricity consumption of an ordinary family in one month. A single unit can generate nearly 17000 degrees of electricity per minute.

Baihetan Hydropower Station is located in Ningnan County, Sichuan Province and Qiaojia County, Yunnan Province in the lower reaches of the Jinsha River. The total installed capacity of the power station is 16 million kilowatts, second only to the Three Gorges Project, ranking second in the world; the annual average power generation capacity is 62.443 billion kWh, and all units It will be put into operation in July 2022.


Million-kilowatt hydro-generator unit achieves breakthrough

Comprehensive benefits of hydropower station to be put into operation soon appear

Baihetan Hydropower Station is the hydropower station with the largest storage capacity and the most significant cascade benefit among the four cascade power stations in the lower reaches of Jinsha River, including Wudongde, Xiluodu and Xiangjiaba Hydropower Station. As the first batch of units of Baihetan Hydropower Station are about to be put into operation for power generation, its comprehensive benefits will become increasingly apparent.

It is estimated that after the Baihetan Hydropower Station is put into operation, it can save about 19.68 million tons of standard coal, 51.6 million tons of carbon dioxide and 170000 tons of sulfur dioxide. At that time, the Baihetan Hydropower Station, together with the Three Gorges Project, the Gezhouba Project, and the Wudongde, Xiluodu, and Xiangjiaba Hydropower Stations on the Jinsha River, will form the world's largest clean energy corridor.

Fan Xiaxia, Deputy General Manager of China Three Gorges Group:After the power station is put into operation, the annual power generation capacity will reach 60 billion kwh, providing a steady stream of clean energy for the Yangtze River Delta region. It is a national strategic project integrating power generation, flood control, shipping, environmental protection and other comprehensive benefits.

During the construction and operation of Baihetan Hydropower Station, it not only improved the infrastructure conditions such as transportation and communication in the surrounding areas of the power station, but also increased the local employment by about 80000 people during the peak period of power station construction; after all the units are put into operation, it can contribute about 15.5 billion yuan of industrial added value every year, increase the local financial revenue by 2.9 billion yuan, and become the power engine to promote the local economic and social development.
