Global copper smelting index improves in 2020

Guy Wolf, head of global analysis at Marex Spectron, said the average global copper activity index in 2020 was significantly higher than in 2019, mainly due to the strong recovery in China since the first quarter of 2020. First quantum record copper production in 2020

First Quantum Mining (First Quantum Minerals) announced on Tuesday that it achieved its highest ever annual copper production of 779000 tons in 2020, up 11% from 2019. ArcelorMittal to invest $0.8 billion in Liberia to increase iron ore exports

Liberian President George Weah said "significant progress" had been made in negotiations with ArcelorMittal to revise the so-called Mineral Development Agreement, which will pave the way for the construction of a "value-added concentrator", leading to a deal to invest $0.8 billion million in the country. Nickel Mines Indonesia project nickel iron production record high

Nickel Mines reported that in the fourth quarter of 2020, the company's Indonesia Rotary Kiln Electric Furnace (RKEF) project increased production by 7.7 percent, a record high attributable production. RKEF production in the quarter reached a record 11527 tonnes, with nickel miners' share of production at 9216 tonnes. Cerrado Gold Acquires Argentine Gold and Silver Project

Cerrado Gold completed a share purchase agreement with Capella Minerals to acquire a 100 percent stake in Minera Mariana Argentina SA, its Argentine subsidiary, three months after it initially announced the acquisition plans. The main assets owned by Minera Mariana are the Las Calandrias and Los Cisnes gold and silver projects in the southern province of Santa Cruz. The two projects have a total of 60400 hectares of land, most of which is located near the Minera Don Nicolas gold mine in Cerrado.

 

 

Brazil Seeks to Boost Potash Mining

In order to expand the country's production of potash and other agricultural minerals, the Brazilian Ministry of Mines and Energy, through the Brazilian Geological Survey, has issued a report. Russian gold production down 7% year-on-year in January-November 2020

The Russian Ministry of Finance said on Tuesday that Russia's gold production in January-November 2020 was 314.41 tons, down from 337.26 tons in the same period in 2019. In addition, the country produced 873.90 tonnes of silver in the first 11 months of 2020, down from 903.72 tonnes in the same period in 2019.
