Multiple lithium potential areas found in north-central Peru

According to the BNAmericas website, the Institute of Geology, Mining and Metallurgy (Ingemmet) of the Peruvian Ministry of Energy and Mines believes that there are a series of lithium deposits in the central mountains and northern coastal zones of the country.
In the Puno region of southern Peru, the country's richest grade lithium deposits are located and are being explored by the Makusani Uranium Company (Macusani Yellowcake). There are also large lithium deposits in the Cusco, Ayakucho, Pasco and Junin regions, as well as in the northern regions of Piura and Tumbes.
The above information is shown in the Ingemmet developed Geology and Mineral System (Geocatmin), updated by the end of 2023, including 3D information and improved geological data.
The new version of the Geocatmin system also contains information on mineral exploration and development, territorial planning and disaster prevention.
The Geocatmin system shows that lithium deposits (gray) in the Puno region extend to the southwest of the Cusco region, with other deposits (pink) associated with copper, gold, zinc and uranium.
Henry Luna, executive vice president of the Ingemmet, said at a seminar held by the Peruvian Association of Mining Engineers (IIMP) that although the lithium deposits in the central mountains and the northern coast are small, the country will soon become one of the world's important lithium resource countries, and the resource is expected to rise.

Ingemmet plans to continue exploring lithium resources this year and is expected to discover more minable lithium deposits.
"Ingemmet have a duty to receive mining applications. There are currently no mining rights in these areas and we will be studying them for five years".
He added that "Ingemmet will carry out lithium exploration in Puno, Mokegua and Aregipa".
