The Smart Mine Innovation Lab aims to leverage Industrial wireless control network, industrial halo network, cloud computing, etc. ICT Technology to help Shanxi to achieve the goal of reducing human efficiency and improving the intrinsic safety of coal mines.After it is put into operation, the laboratory will adopt the mode of "coal expert ICT technology expert" to form an expert team of about 220 people to carry out scientific research on topics such as "coal mine information network", "automation enabling", "intelligent sensing technology", "coal mine big data" and "ecological cooperation.

The establishment of Huawei Intelligent Mine Innovation Laboratory in Shanxi is one of the achievements of in-depth cooperation between Huawei and Shanxi Province in building a digital ecology of "symbiosis, co-creation and sharing. Shanxi is a major energy province and has accumulated rich experience and application scenarios in the coal industry. Since 2019, Huawei has been exploring intelligent transformation with a number of partners in the Shanxi coal industry, and has launched Huawei's joint solution for intelligent mines, which has achieved certain results in promoting unmanned, intelligent, clean and low-carbon coal mines. These developments provide confidence for the intelligent mine innovation laboratory to continue scientific research and further solve the pain points of high production risk, poor production environment and difficult equipment management in the coal industry.
Safety and efficiency is the main goal of the digital transformation of the coal industry. According to the special underground operation environment, massive monitoring data need to be transmitted back in real time, with large amount of upload and small amount of download, Huawei has developed a wireless base station with moisture-proof, dust-proof, explosion-proof, miniaturized and 3:1 uplink and downlink bandwidth ratio. Through network optimization and innovation, the operation control accuracy of downhole equipment can be increased from 99.9% to 99.99%.
In the future, relying on the intelligent mine innovation laboratory, Huawei and its partners will also make innovative breakthroughs in various aspects such as underground camera "self-cleaning" technology, underground wireless low-frequency transmission, and risk prediction technology in advance, so as to realize unattended fixed coal mine sites and robot replacement in key links. Ren Zhengfei: Let me briefly introduce it first. Huawei's previous communication network was mainly to connect thousands of households and provide connectivity for billions of people. But in the 5G era, the main connection objects are enterprises, such as airports, docks, coal mines, steel, automobile manufacturing, aircraft manufacturing... These are areas that we are not familiar with, so we have set up joint laboratories in various fields. In order to understand the needs of these industries. This time we have established a coal mine innovation laboratory in Shanxi, which is to use 5G for the improvement of mining services. Now there are 220 experts in this laboratory, 53 of whom are experts from Huawei. Most of Huawei's experts are electronic technology experts. The other 150 are coal experts who have a better understanding of the coal industry in Shanxi. They have formed a joint The laboratory implements a dual responsibility system. In terms of coal, the leaders of the coal industry have a greater right to speak; in terms of electronics, the leaders of Huawei have a greater right to speak.

Ren Zhengfei: First of all, we will not broaden our business environment. The coal industry and the application of steel, docks, and airports in 5G have the same basic platform. There are some differences, but most technologies are common, so we mainly broaden electronic systems. And software computing systems are applied in different industries. Our in-depth understanding of coal mines will enable our electronic systems and software systems to provide them with very good application services in the future. If we do a good job of providing services to coal mines, just as Microsoft provides information services to aero engines, there is an excellent service module. Microsoft is not going to build engines, and we are not going to dig coal.

We can help the coal industry to realize "few people, no one, safety and high efficiency", reduce the number of people in intelligent coal mining face by 60%, and reduce the number of people entering the coal mine in a single shift by 10-20%. The coal industry welcomes us to use electronic systems in the coal field. In doing so, we will not only develop ourselves, but also solve the problems of efficient and safe production in coal mines, so that coal miners can work "in suits and ties", and may also drive the development of Shanxi coal mining machinery.

A year ago, you said that you had confidence in Huawei to survive these challenges. One year later, do you still have the same confidence in Huawei? Or is your confidence not as good as before? Why?

Ren Zhengfei: I have more confidence in Huawei's survival, not less, because we have more means to overcome difficulties. In 2020, our sales revenue and profit have achieved positive growth. You are welcome to have the opportunity to visit Ningbo Port, see the airport in Shenzhen, as well as Dubai Airport, German automobile factory, etc., all of which have made great progress because of our 5G service. We continue to gain the trust of a large number of customers.

We have launched the "Nanniwan" project. Foreign journalists may not know enough about the term "Nanniwan", which actually refers to self-help in production. For example, we in the coal, steel, music, smart screen, PC, tablet... There may be a great breakthrough in the field. Sales declined because we couldn't get chips on high-end phones, but we supported iPhone12 progress. iPhone12's 5G mobile phone downlink rate reached 1.82G, which should be the best in the world. In 5G applications, most ICT companies in the world did not choose mines as a breakthrough, but we chose mines. There are more than 5300 coal mines and more than 2700 metal mines in China. What is the positioning of the intelligent mine laboratory jointly built by Huawei and Shanxi in Huawei's global layout? From what aspects will the laboratory operate after landing? What changes will it bring to Shanxi in the future? What vision will Huawei have in Shanxi in the future? What layout will Huawei have in Shanxi in the future? Thank you!

Ren Zhengfei: We have about one hundred research institutes and joint laboratories around the world, most of which are mathematics, physics, chemistry, biology, aesthetics... various professional and technical institutes, and a small number of applied laboratories are joint laboratories established in cooperation with customers. For example, we have a joint laboratory with telecommunications, so we have to study what the needs of telecommunications customers are. Now it has jumped out of telecommunications and has joint laboratories with coal, airports, ports, and transportation. These laboratories are applied laboratories. Therefore, we mainly contribute to thousands of coal mines and various mines in Shanxi. In the future, open-pit mines will adopt unmanned technology to realize unmanned mining of open-pit mines. The construction of Shanxi coal mines is generally good. Most coal mines have already used mechanization, and a few coal mines have moved towards automation. We apply ICT technology to mines, mainly to help coal mines realize intelligence. For example, at present, the underground gas early warning and explosion-proof system in Shanxi is well done, but it should be connected by four wires, two power lines and two signal lines. When we came in, the gas sensor no longer needed wires. The radio for upward transmission and the battery for equipment power supply were lower than the 6 mA safety current standard. Not only can it be arranged at will in the tunnel, but with the mining machine advancing at will, the output capacity is improved without slowing down the mining movement of the mining machine due to wiring. Small batteries are used to supply power to the gas alarm with low energy, and the batteries can be replaced once every 12-18 months. We will cooperate with Shanxi coal system to promote the progress of explosion-proof system, and this product can also be extended to the world.

4, Xinhua News Agency Zhao Donghui: Huawei set up a coal corps, whether to enter the airport, docks, steel industry, whether to set up a corps?

Ren Zhengfei: This mechanism is not only implemented in coal. Why is it called "Legion"? The term "Legion" comes from Google, and we learn from Google. "Legion" is to bring together basic research scientists, technical experts, product experts, engineering experts, sales experts, delivery and service experts in one department, shortening the cycle of product progress. Granulating the business is the "legion" model, which comes from Google.

Ports and docks have already started on a large scale. Coal was the first to adopt the legion model.

You can also visit the Xiangtan Iron and Steel Plant. There is no one in front of the steelmaking furnace and rolling mill. The real realization is that workers "put on suits and rings" make steel and roll steel in the control room. With the use of VR and AR, the chemical composition in the steelmaking furnace can be seen with glasses, and there is no need to scoop it out with a spoon for testing outside, thus improving the steelmaking speed and enhancing the alloy steel capacity. Steelmaking has taken the lead and is easier to solve than coal mines.

Whether to implement the "legion" model in these areas depends on demand. A large number of airports and docks are mathematical problems, which are easy to solve; a large number of coal mines are physical and chemical problems, which are a new problem for us.

5, the South China Morning Post Chen Si: Huawei's business has some adjustments, management will not change accordingly?

Ren Zhengfei: Generally speaking, there will be no major structural adjustments, but as the operational combat sequence changes, there may be a small number of personnel adjustments. For example, the chairman of the coal mine corps was transferred back from the post of president of the Latin American regional department, which shows that we attach great importance to the development of Shanxi coal mines.
